What does it take to walk only in your own footsteps, to belong to yourself, and to beam your light out into the world?
When I first started out I struggled because from my early teens on I didn’t think I had a very interesting story to share or even to live out. I felt dragged down by the fear that my life didn’t matter very much and that I would fail to become the person that I knew, deep in my heart, I wanted to be. I didn’t understand how to free the energy and creativity that felt like they were locked within a vault inside that I didn’t have the combination to.
I tried lots of ways to free myself, individual therapy, group therapy, vision boards, personality tests, self-help workshops, thought leaders, and books. They each worked, a little. None of them worked enough though to ease my frustration and disappointment that I was missing out on living my best life and it felt like time was running out.
While on my journey, I discovered the world of story and storytelling. This was where I would learn the power of the story I held about myself. It was in the land of stories that I discovered a potent and life-changing truth, that I was the only person who could truly determine my story. Taking inspiration from time-honored traditional tales, I began to see new possibilities for who and how I wanted to be in my life.
Becoming a traditional storyteller, leading others to their own discovery of the true nature of their stories, and helping them redesign these elemental narratives became my life’s purpose.
Then I discovered the concept of energy leadership created by Bruce D. Schneider. It was here that I came to understand that rather than being stuck in any one way of being, we each have the ability to experience all the flavors of life. What makes the difference is whether or not we are at choice about it.
With this awareness, I was no longer a prisoner of fear or adversity. I now had wings upon which I could soar in order to get the power of perspective and freedom. This was the perfect set of tools to pair with the transformative power of story.
So now I’m able to enjoy a life where I’m passionate about helping gifted, accomplished women, who experience feeling stuck or limited, redesign their lives, and stories, so that they, too, can walk only in their own footsteps, belong to themselves, and beam their lights out into the world where they can thrive with successful and meaningful lives.
